CHAPTER ELEVEN

TIZIANI

It had taken me only a few moments to scroll through the Bride Guidebook and discover my mate’s name. Hannah Landon.

I couldn’t find any records of Hannah’s accident or illness—or whatever it was that had put her in that wheelchair.

In fact, I couldn’t find much about her at all.

Her entry in the Bride Guidebook suggested she was twenty-one Earth years old, though I would have assumed she was four or five years older than that.

I guess I’m not very good at judging human females’ ages.

But her age wasn’t the most important thing I needed to figure out.

How can I make her mine?

No. Wait. That was where I had made my mistakes before—by assuming I could control these human women.

I didn’t need to make her mine. I needed Hannah to want to make me hers. I needed to seduce her into choosing me.

So, how to do that?

Leaning back in my chair, I tapped my wristcom. Elo didn’t answer, so I left a message. “Hello, Elo, this is Tiziani. I need to set up an appointment with you as soon as possible. Some things have come up, and I would like your input. I think you could add an important perspective.”

With any luck, my psychologist would help me sort through this plan of mine—a plan that was only barely beginning to take shape in my mind.

But sitting around thinking about it wasn’t going to make the plan any better or allow me to develop it any faster. I pushed myself up to standing, unable to sit still, and began pacing back and forth as I considered my options.

At least I knew Hannah wasn’t going to go anywhere anytime soon—not with Vos Klavoii’s plan to host a human-style dance.

A human dance. I needed to learn exactly how to dance in a human style, I realized. Perhaps I could even teach her some of the more entertaining Khanavai dances.

Oh. I also needed to figure out how I was going to dance with a woman confined to a wheeled chair.

But I wouldn’t be able to do any of that if the station’s power didn’t come back on. I didn’t have enough charge left on any of my devices to allow me to download the information I needed—especially the videos of human dances—so I would either have to find some other way to learn the dances or wait until the power was restored.

I had spent the last year working as a technician for Station 21. As a groom, I was now exempt from doing any of that work. But the station was under attack from unknown sources, so the least I could do was help restore our energy.

I couldn’t stay in this tiny room any longer.

Ten minutes later, I entered the control room for the Bride Lottery and Games. As I opened the door, a wall of sound hit me. People scurried back and forth, working to repair the damage that had been done to the station.

I stood against the wall for a moment, taking everything in.
